South Africa v West Indies

South Africa will face off with West Indies in their second match in the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup Group 1 in Dubai, UAE on October 26.

The Proteas are coming off a defeat to Australia, who secured a tense five-wicket win in the opening Group 1 game at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on October 23.

Australia won the toss and chose to field first which saw them restrict the Proteas to a below-par score of 118/9 and then the Baggy Greens reached 121/5 with two balls to spare to claim a win.

"Yeah, look, we went with the option of the extra batter, but that obviously didn't help our cause. So I mean, as a team we knew what the plan was," South Africa T20 team captain Temba Bavuma said as he reflected on their defeat to Australia.

"We were expecting the wicket to be a good one. Hence we went with the extra batter. I thought the bowlers bowled quite well.

"There's no one I can fault today in the bowling. So if you are selecting six batters with an all-around at 7, and you are scoring 118, then I don't think you can exactly blame the plan," he added.

"I think from a batting point of view, we know that there's a lot that we could have done and we will be looking to correct our wrongs in the next game."

Meanwhile, West Indies' Men In Maroon started their Group 1 campaign with a disappointing six-wicket defeat to England at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on October 23.

England's Poms, who won the toss and elected to field, bowled West Indies out for 55, and they went on to claim a six-wicket win after hitting a 56-run target.

The West Indies' total was the lowest by a Full Member team in a men's T20 World Cup match and the Men In Maroon will now be looking to return to winning ways against South Africa.

South Africa and West Indies will meet for the 16th time in a T20 match on October 26.

The Proteas have dominated this rivalry having recorded nine wins compared to the Men In Maroon's six victories.

The last T20 match between the two nations was on 3 July 2021 and South Africa won by 25 runs in a T20 series that was played in Grenada.
