All eyes will be on Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in South African football this weekend when the PSL giants battle it out for the coveted MTN8 trophy at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
Pirates booked their ticket into the MTN8 final via a dominant 4-0 aggregate win against Sekhukhune United over two-legs as they solidified their status as the team to beat in the tournament.
Sundowns on the other hand, were made to work for their final berth after going down 1-0 to Golden Arrows at home in the first-leg of their semi-final duties. In the return leg, which took place at the King Zwelithini in August, Downs closed a 2-1 aggregate gap owing to late goals by Marcelo Allende and Antonio van Wyk before Philani Khumalo scored during stoppage time to tie the score at 3-3 on aggregate as Downs advanced on the away goals rule.
Nonetheless, Pirates will now look to win their fifth MTN8 final trophy on the bounce, an unprecedented feat in South African football.
For Sundowns, Miguel Cardoso will be eyeing his first domestic title with the club after claiming the 2026 CAF Champions League title in May.

Speaking ahead of the final, Cardoso expressed that the Tshwane-giants will address their preparations as any other match against their local football rivals.
"The club has played many finals against Pirates, but this will be our first time as coaches and we understand very well the importance of such a game and what is at stake because it means so much for the fans,” Cardoso said.
“Whatever pressure comes from the outside we will deal with in a natural way and prepare for this game like any other fixture against Pirates."
