Test 1 of 3
South Africa vs Australia
Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Cricket Stadium
Kingsmead, South Africa
9-13 October
First test set to commence at 09:30am
As the first of three keenly anticipated test cricket matches, South Africa will now target success in the World Test Championship when they take on Australia at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban starting on Thursday.
As it stands, the Aussies lead the way on the test cricket rankings with 3411 points and a 126 rating after 27 matches played.
The Proteas will head into the tournament sitting in second position on the test rankings table, with 2256 points and a rating of 119 following 19 matches played.
South Africa will have the added confidence of holding the title after seeing off Australia by five-wickets at Lord’s during the 2025 edition of the showpiece.
Regarding team news, popular bowler Kagiso Rabada is currently nursing a hamstring injury, while Anrich Nortje recently marked his comeback into the team. Australia will take to the first test without Josh Inglis owing to a fractured finger.
In the head-to-head battle, South Africa and Australia shook hands in nine series battles across the last 20 years, with the latter recording three away series wins and a single victory on home soil. Australia on the other hand, claimed two home and two away series wins, while the 2011/12 edition ended in a draw.

Speaking ahead of the keenly anticipated test series, South Africa captain Temba Bavuma noted that while there’s mutual respect between the two sides, the Proteas have the confidence to topple their long-standing cricket rivals.
"When you play against Australia, you don't just play against those individuals, you play against what it means to be Australian," Bavuma said.
"It's always a clash we look forward to. It tends to at least bring out the competitive edge of both teams. We have a strong desire to get the better of them.
"We give them a lot of respect but we also take confidence in that we've been able to get the better of them.”
