La Liga
Matchday 8
Real Madrid vs Villareal
Santiago Bernabeu
Madrid, Spain
Saturday, 10 October 2026
Kick-off is at 21:00
After a disappointing loss before the recent international break, Real Madrid will hope to kick-start their 2026/27 La Liga title bid when they return to face Villarreal at home on Saturday.
Madrid currently occupies fourth on the LaLiga table with 15 points, six points behind in-form leaders Barcelona after seven matches played.
Los Blancos are coming off a 2-1 defeat against arch-rivals Atletico Madrid in a match played shortly before the international break, marking their second loss of the campaign.
Prior to the defeat against Atleti, Madrid noted back-to-back wins over Rayo Vallecano and Elche, while Villarreal is in ninth position after securing consecutive victories over Malaga and Levante last time out.
Villarreal's turnaround of victories came after three consecutive losses to Alaves, Deportivo and Real Betis, allowing them to climb up the La Liga standings.

Speaking after Madrid’s loss to Atletico, Jose Mourinho bemoaned various refereeing decisions and felt that their fierce rivals ought to have received two red cards following rash challenges by Cristian Romero and Lee Kang-in.
“We could skip the press conference because the story of the match is right here,” Mourinho said.
“Those were two clear red cards. The difficulties we’ve faced since the sending-off: 11 against 10. Well, we can imagine what 50 minutes of 11 against nine would have been like if justice had been done.”
