Wolves; Watford Ready for Wembley Showdown

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Watford

2018/19 FA Cup

Semi-Final 2
Wembley Stadium, London
Sunday, April 7th
Kick-off at 16:00 (4:00pm) GMT

The second semi-final of this season’s FA Cup pits two fellow Premier League outfits against each other off the back of remarkable seasons domestically for the pair of clubs respectively.

Wolves, looking to build on the momentum of promotion last season, have booked themselves a trip to London on Sunday to face Watford from just across the capital. They are aiming to reach their first final since 1960 when they famously lifted the trophy. The Hornets will play in their second semi-final in the last four seasons after narrowly missing out on the showpiece event following defeat to Manchester United in 2016.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men ended their preparation for Sunday’s semi-final in some style, coming from a goal behind to beat Manchester United for the second time is as many weeks. Wolves sent United packing from the FA Cup with a 2-1 win in their quarter-final tie.

Spanish midfielder Diogo Jota found the back of the net in both of those victories and will be hoping to add to his modest total of eight goals across 30 appearances in all competitions.

The Midlands club exercised the option to make Raul Jimenez loan-move a permanent one from Benfica in the summer. The Mexican has scored 15 goals in his debut season with the Wolves and is expected to lead the line again on Sunday.

Watford have been continuously battling with Sunday’s opponents for the title of, arguably, ‘the best team outside the top six’ in the English Premier League. Currently, just one place and one point separates Wolves in seventh from Watford in eighth.

The Hornets last game prior to their Wembley outing saw them slot four past a hapless Fulham outfit who were relegated in the process.

Troy Deeney is certainly a man for a big occasion. He bagged his 10th goal of the current campaign and will surely be relishing a return to Wembley.

Watford recent results:

02/04 – Watford 4-1 Fulham
30/03 – Man United 2-1 Watford
16/03 – Watford 2-1 Crystal Palace (FAC)

Watford picked up their first win in their last four attempts against Wolves, securing all three points from their first-ever Premier League meeting at the Molineax earlier in the season, thanks to two goals in a minute from Etienne Capoue and Roberto Pereyra. The pair are set to clash once more, on April 27th, in a fixture that could finally separate these two in the English top-flight.
