The 2019-20 UEFA Champions League season was suspended in March, with four of the eight Round of 16 ties having been completed. We take a closer look at the campaign’s most salient statistics thus far.

4 – The number of teams which advanced into the quarterfinals before the UEFA Champions League was suspended: Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig, Atalanta and Atletico Madrid.

344 – The number of goals scored in the 2019-20 Champions League, at an average of 3.19 per match. This compares to 2018-19’s 366 at 2.93 per match.

11 – The number of goals netted by Bayern Munich, the Champions League’s top scorer so far this season. Erling Braut Haaland, meanwhile, scored 10 goals for two different teams, Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund, before the latter’s elimination at the hands of PSG.

108 – The number of matches played in the Champions League proper in 2019-20 (excluding the preliminary and playoff rounds).

5 – Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech tops the assist charts with five set-ups, despite the Dutch club having departed the competition in the group stage. “I already knew that he was good, but what he has shown in recent years is not normal,” said Ziyech’s former teammate, Alfred Finnbogason. “If you don’t click with Ziyech, you are not a good striker. You just have to move well. He gives the balls exactly the way you want them.”

27 – The number of goals netted by Bayern Munich in their seven matches in the Champions League this season, making them comfortably the top-scoring team in the competition this season.

8 – Atalanta scored as many goals in their 8-4 aggregate win over Valencia in the Round of 16 as they managed in six matches in their group stage campaign. "Atalanta aren’t a surprise any longer. We’re doing great things and want to carry on. We want to show we deserve to be here and improve day by day,” said Josip Ilicic, who scored five goals across two games against Valencia.

2005 – The Champions League final is slated to held in Istanbul. The last time the final was played in the Turkish capital was in 2005, when Liverpool famously came from three goals down to hold AC Milan 3-3 and win the title on penalties.

4,758,398 – The total spectator attendance at Champions League matches this season, at an average of 44,059 per match.
