South Africa v Bangladesh First Test Preview

South Africa take on Bangladesh in the first match of the Sunfoil two-test series between 28 September and 2 October 2017.

It is Bangladesh's first tour of South Africa in nine years and Faf du Plessis has been appointed Proteas captain across all three formats.

Newly-appointed South Africa coach Ottis Gibson will be hoping to ease into his job by winning the two Test matches. The Proteas are looking to defend a one-sided record against Bangladesh's Tigers, who are currently ranked eighth on the ICC Test Championship standings.

South Africa are placed second on the rankings and will be hoping to continue their dominance over the Tigers in Test matches. Mushfiqur Rahim, who is a wicket keeper, is set to captain Bangladesh during the two test matches.

The Proteas will be without Chris Morris, Vernon Philander and Dale Steyn as they remain sidelined. Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh's opening batsman, is expected to play for his nation after recovering from a thigh injury.
