2023 Japanese Motorcycle Grand Prix

Round 14
Mobility Resort Motegi
Motegi, Japan
Sunday, 1 October 2023

The 2023 Japanese MotoGP will be held at the Mobility Resort Motegi in a town located in Tochigi Prefecture, Motegi on 1 October.

What to know about the Japanese MotoGP

The first race took place in 1963 at the Suzuka Circuit and it was known as the Grand Prix Race Meeting (no official sponsor).

The Suzuka Circuit was permanently replaced by the Mobility Resort Motegi from 2004 onwards after the circuit faced criticism for its short runoff area's and dangerous trackside barriers.

The 2020 and 2021 races were cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the event is due to take place at the Mobility Resort Motegi until at least 2023.

Most recent race

The inaugural Indian MotoGP which was the 13th round of the 2023 MotoGP World Championship season took place on 24 September.

The race was won by Ducati rider Marco Bezzecchi while his teammate Jorge Martin and Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo finished second and third respectively.

Standings

Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia is still placed at the top of riders' standings followed by Martin, Bezzecchi and KTM rider Brad Binder respectively with seven races left.

Looking at the constructors' standings, Ducati are sitting at the top - followed by KTM and Aprilia respectively.

Quotes

“It was a great weekend overall, especially our pace in qualifying. So, I’m pretty happy about this weekend. Hopefully, we can do many more this year," Quartararo said after the 2023 Indian MotoGP.

“So, we have to be clever and as soon as we have small opportunities to make these kind of results we have to take it. “I was struggling a lot to stop the bike, especially on the left corners.

"But we have to be happy with this podium. “I didn’t know if it was arm pump or the leathers [that Martin was struggling with], but I saw he was doing something strange in Turns 10/11, and so I tried to push till the end," he added.

“But I was feeling so on the limit with the feeling and tyre. That’s the best we could do this weekend.”
