Liverpool will be looking to get their UEFA Champions League campaign up and running when they welcome Ajax to Anfield on Tuesday, September 13.

The Reds suffered a shock 4-1 defeat to Napoli in Italy on matchday 1, having conceded all four goals in the opening 47 minutes at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

It continued their disappointing start to the season after Jurgen Klopp's side had won just two of their opening six games in the Premier League.

Virgil van Dijk was part of the team that got thumped in Naples and the Dutch defender has called on his team-mates to show a unified front as they attempt to bounce back against the Eredivisie champions.

"There's so many games still to play but you wanted to have a good start. The situation is how it is. Next game in the Champions League will be Ajax at home and we need the fans, we need a good performance from us," Van Dijk told the club's official website.

"What I said, the key is to be together. We need everyone. If you start blaming others and don't look at yourself or create negativity around the club, then you're not getting out of this. I'm fully confident that we'll turn this around together."

The Amsterdam giants got off to a flying start in Europe after they thrashed Rangers 4-0 at the Johan Cruyff Arena to go top in Group A.

Steven Bergwijn (32', 80') led the way with a brace, while Edson Alvarez (17') and Mohammed Kudus (33') also got their names on the scoresheet as Alfred Schreuder's team cruised to victory against the Gers.

De Godenzonen have also made a perfect start in the league, winning their opening six matches, the latest of which was a 5-0 mauling of Heerenveen on Saturday.

Kudus was named man of the match against the Scottish club last week and Schreuder lauded the Ghanaian striker for an outstanding performance, which he capped off with a goal.

"I think he's an amazing player. In my view, he's a natural-born striker," the Dutchman said. "We knew that today he might blur the distinction between the lines if he played it right.

"He is really quick and nippy. We knew this might happen and sometimes it's just a matter of time."
