Rory McIlroy chases third PGA Championship

2018 PGA Championship

August 9-12, 2018

Bellerive Country Club, Missouri, USA

$10,500,00 purse

Tee-times starting at 13h50 CAT

Northern Irish golf star Rory McIlroy will enter the 2018 PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club in Missouri as one of the clear favourites.

The 29-year-old four-time major winner has a game which will be perfectly suited to the Bellerive layout, and the expected soft conditions (due to rainy weather in the build-up to the tournament) will further boost his confidence.

Tiger Woods

McIlroy has not won a major for four years, but his fine showings at the recent British Open and Bridgestone Invitational suggest that he is well on top of his game and primed for a return to glory.

Yet he will face some stiff competition, not least from four-time PGA Championship winner Tiger Woods, whose aggressive approach will be perfect for the expected conditions.

Last year’s champion Justin Thomas will also be a threat, having shown ominous form last weekend when he triumphed in difficult conditions – and against a tough field – at the Bridgestone Invitational.

Other players set to challenge for the title are Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, John Rahm, Gary Woodland, Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose, Tony Finau and Phil Mickelson.

South Africa’s hopes of a first PGA Championship winner since Gary Player way back in 1972 fall mainly on the shoulders of Louis Oosthuzien, though the first ‘Saffa’ to tee up will be Dylan Frittelli at 15h29 CAT.

Their compatriots in the field are Brandon Grace, Brandon Stone, Johan Kok, Charl Schwartzel and Justin Harding.
