T20 World Cup warm-up match

Twenty20 International Format

New Zealand v South Africa

Allan Border Field
Brisbane, Australia
Monday, 17 October 2022

South Africa will continue their preparations for the T20 World Cup in Australia when they take on New Zealand at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Monday, October 17.

The Proteas head Down Under on the back of a disappointing tour to India, where they suffered series defeats in both white-ball formats of the game.

After losing 2-1 in the T20's, Mark Boucher's side were comprehensively beaten by seven wickets in the third ODI on October 11 to slump to a 2-1 defeat in the 50-over version as well.

Despite struggling with the bat for the most part, Boucher has called on his bowlers to show more aggression in the T20 World Cup as they will get a lot more assistance from the Australian wickets.

"Australia will suit our fast bowlers a lot better," Boucher said after the loss in New Delhi. "We have got some good pace, some good bounce in our attack, so we need to keep the aggression there. I think the last one-day game we played there wasn't enough aggression.

"Surprisingly India's bowling attack in the ODIs bowled with far more aggression than what we did. We did chat about it and the way Anrich Nortje bowled tonight was a positive sign for me, especially going into conditions where that will be quite effective."

Left-arm fast bowler Marco Jansen could be one of those to benefit after he was added to the 15-man squad in place of the injured Dwaine Pretorius, who fractured his thumb during the T20 series against India.

Zealand made it three wins in a row when they beat Bangladesh by 48 runs on October 12 in the fifth T20 of the Tri-Series, which also involves Pakistan.

Glenn Phillips hit 60 from just 24 balls as the Black Caps posted 208 for five in their allotted 20 overs before restricting the Tigers to 160 for seven.

Kiwis skipper Kane Williamson has battled to get going at the crease of late, but head coach Gary Stead is backing him to come good in Australia after a lean spell with the bat, which has seen him yet to score a half-century in 2022.

"Kane is one of the hardest workers I have seen on his game and he continues to be. A big score is around the corner," said Stead.

"I think it's always difficult when you're such a prolific run scorer as Kane has been."
