2026/27 Premier League
Matchday 3
Ipswich Town v Liverpool
Portman Road, Ipswich
Friday 4 September, 21:00
Liverpool will be hungry to claim their first win of the new Premier League season when they face hosts Ipswich Town at Portman Road on the evening of Friday 4 September, kick-off at 21:00.
Form
Ipswich come into the match on the back of a 2-5 away loss at the hands of Manchester United this past weekend, though the Tractor Boys had racked up successive wins prior to that, defeating Sunderland in their league opener, followed by a win over Leicester City in the EFL League Cup.
Liverpool, meanwhile, played out a second successive draw at the start of the league campaign when they were held 2-2 at home by Nottingham Forest this past Saturday. The Reds twice fought back from a goal down, thanks to levellers from Alexander Isak and Victor Munoz.
Team news
Ipswich will sweat on the fitness of striker Emersonn, who was forced off at half time against Man United with a knee injury, while Florentino Luis is nearing a return from a calf injury.
Liverpool will continue to be without Federico Chiesa, Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley, Hugo Ekitike and Giovani Leoni due to injuries, though they will hope to have new winger Bradley Barcola signed and available for Friday evening.
Head-to-head
Ipswich and Liverpool have met in 74 matches across all competitions. The Reds have claimed 39 wins compared to 14 for the Tractor Boys, while 21 games have been drawn.
The teams last crossed paths in the 2024/25 Premier League, with Liverpool completing a ‘double’ by winning 2-0 away in August 2024 and 4-1 at home in January 2025.
Quotes
Liverpool striker Alexander Isak on the continuing adaptation to new manager Andoni Iraola: “It's been good. There's always time to get used to a new playing style and a new manager. But we are really working hard to try to play the game he wants us to play and I think when we start doing that better, I have no doubt that the results will come.”
