Frances Tiafoe vs Alex Michelsen
United States
Tuesday, 8 September
With the US Open reaching the business end of the tournament, American tennis star Frances Tiafoe will now target a place in the semi-finals when he takes on fellow countryman Alex Michelsen in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Tiafoe met ex-US open champion Daniil Madvedev in the Round of 16 at the Louis Armstrong Stadium this past Sunday where he claimed a straight-set win over the Russian.
Currently seeded in 11th place on the Tennis rankings, Tiafoe claimed a 7-6 (7/1), 6-4, 7-6 (8/6) win over his seventh-seeded opponent to advance to the final eight for the fourth time in the last five years.
In an impressive outing for the 28-year-old, Tiafoe remained unbeaten at Louis Armstrong Stadium having claimed 10 wins at the popular ground throughout his career.
In feeding off the crowd’s energy, Tiafoe expressed that he was focused in getting the job done over the 2021 US Open winner.
"I played well when it counted," Tiafoe said.
"Yeah, I came up with some crazy stuff, but it had to be that good against such a quality player in Daniil.
"The energy has been amazing. It's like the people's court. I'm loving the energy for sure."
