2024-25 Italian Serie A
Matchday 37
Parma v Napoli
Stadio Ennio Tardini
Parma, Italy
Sunday, 18 May 2025
Kick-off is at 15h00
Napoli will be looking to get their
Serie A title challenge back on track when they head to the Stadio Ennio Tardini for a clash with Parma in the penultimate round of the season on Sunday, May 18.
The Partenopei opened the door for Inter Milan in the race for the Scudetto after being held to a 2-2 draw by Genoa on May 11, which brought end to their four-match winning streak.
The Nerazzurri closed within a point of Antonio Conte's side courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Torino that same day to keep their hopes of a title defence alive.
The two goals conceded against the Griffin was the first time in five outings that Alex Meret had been beaten, although the goalkeeper is still tied with Roma's Mile Svilar for the most clean sheets this term (15).
The Crusaders aren't mathematically safe yet after a 2-1 reverse at Empoli on May 10 extended their winless run to three games and left them in 16th place.
Cristian Chivu's side have only picked up five points from their last five matches and the gap to the relegation zone stands at just four points with six still left to play for.
Three of the four teams below them claimed at least a point on matchday 36 and the Empoli Blues boosted their survival bid with that crucial victory in Tuscany.
Parma have now failed to keep a clean sheet in their last three encounters, shipping five goals in the process, but they still have a superior goal difference to Lecce (17th on 28 points), Empoli (18th on 28 points) and Venezia (19th on 26 points).
Chivu has urged his players to take destiny into their own hands instead of relying on their rivals to slip up in the final two rounds.
"We have safety in our hands, we failed the last two games and we could have collected a little more to stay calm, even if we are not calm at the moment because the mathematics says that we are not safe yet and we always have to wait for the others," the Italian said.
"But I would not like to wait for the others and we take our destiny into our own hands, doing something different than what we did in the last two games."
Conte felt the performance against Genoa warranted more than a point and is aware that the Naples outfit cannot afford to drop the ball in their last two games.
"I don't think we deserved a draw, but at the same time we need to know that we've blown an advantage we had. We needed seven points and now we need to win the two remaining matches," the Italian said.
"The team would deserve it and so would the people of Naples, who have always supported us with great passion and enthusiasm. We're disappointed at the moment but we need to keep going and thank these players."
