2021/22 English Premier League

Matchday 37

West Ham United v Manchester City

London Stadium
London, England
Sunday, 15 May 2022
Kick-off is at 15h00

Manchester City will look to take another step towards retaining their Premier League crown when they travel to the capital to take on West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday, May 15.

The Citizens opened up a three-point gap to Liverpool with a 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium last weekend after their title rivals were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola's side have now scored 17 goals in their last four games, while conceding just once to put their recent blips behind them.

Guardiola paid tribute to his squad after the victory over the Magpies, marvelling at the consistency the players have shown during his time at the helm.

"Sometimes I say to the players, you have to play good to lift the fans to let the opponent know here is not a nice place to come," the Spaniard said.

"Today we didn't need to do that. The people know these guys do it every three days for five years like today. They deserve it. They are one of the best groups I have ever had in my life as a manager, even as a player.

"It is an important three points after Liverpool and Tottenham (drew 1-1), but anything can happen in football."

The Hammers boosted their European prospects with a 4-0 drubbing of relegated Norwich at Carrow Road this past weekend.

Their chances of a top-four finish had faded in recent weeks after losing five of their previous nine league outings, but the east Londoners arrested a four-match winless run to go five points clear of Wolves in seventh place.

David Moyes' team saw their Europa League adventure come to an end earlier in the week when they lost to Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-finals, and the Scottish tactician admitted the win over the Canaries helped ease some of that disappointment.

"It was probably as big a disappointment as any of us in football have had in midweek. Today's victory helped," Moyes said.

"We're well aware that we want European football again. We're trying to hang in there. We saw today as a really important game with two games to go, which are difficult.

"Getting the three points today gives us a little bit of leeway, but for us to try and catch Manchester United - and not be caught by Wolverhampton Wanderers - is really important."
