3rd ODI
South Africa v Bangladesh
SuperSport Park
Centurion, South Africa
Wednesday, 23 March 2022

South Africa will be looking to avoid a first-ever One Day International series defeat to Bangladesh on home soil when they meet in the decider at SuperSport Park on Wednesday, March 23.

The Tigers won the first ODI at the same ground by 38 runs after they posted an impressive 314/7 and restricted the hosts to just 276.

The Proteas bounced back in convincing fashion at the Wanderers in the second ODI, winning by seven wickets as they limited the tourists to 194/9, with Kagiso Rabada named man of the match for his figures of 5/39.

Opener Quinton de Kock helped steer the South Africans to victory with 62 runs, while Kyle Verreynne remained unbeaten on 58 to reach 195/3 in the 38th over.

Proteas ODI captain Temba Bavuma praised his bowlers for taking the pressure off the batters in Johannesburg, having been critical of their pace attack in Centurion.

“The guys sort of convinced me to bowl," he said. "Fortunately, the bowlers upfront did a good job and we were not put under pressure."

Bavuma also gave credit to De Kock for his role in setting up the victory and believes the momentum is on their side going into the third ODI.

"The new ball could've been tough but Quinny (de Kock) saw it differently. These conditions are different from Centurion, which is a lot truer.

"We will take forward the confidence and momentum from this game into the final game."

Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal admits their chances of claiming victory on Sunday dwindled after the top order faltered.

Only five of their batters reached double figures, with Afif Hossain the one shining light, scoring 72 runs at No 7.

"We knew that they would come hard at us with the new ball," Iqbal said. "We did it very well in the first innings by not giving away anything. That's why we capitalised in the middle overs.

"Today, the situation was different: we lost too many wickets up front. There weren't enough batsmen to capitalise in the middle."
