Emirates Lions will welcome the Sharks in the 2017 Super Rugby quarter-final match at the Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg on Saturday. Lions recorded a 27-10 victory over Sharks away in their previous Super Rugby match which was played in Durban last weekend. This was the South African side's 12th consecutive victory in this year's competition. The last time they lost at home in Super Rugby was in April, 2016. Lions advanced to the knockout stages of the 2017 Super Rugby after finishing at the top of the overall standings with 65 points.

Meanwhile, Sharks' recent defeat to Lions extended their losing run in the tournament to two games. They had lost to Vodacom Bulls, before facing Lions. The South African side defeated Sunwolves in their last away match which took place in Singapore in May, 2017. Sharks booked their place in the quarter-finals after finishing eighth on the overall standings of this year's Super Rugby - five points ahead of ninth-placed Blues. Lions and Sharks have met four times in the Super Rugby since 2016. The former have dominated - winning all four games.
