Southern Kings will welcome Cheetahs in the 2017 Super Rugby match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday in what will be both teams Super Rugby swansong. Kings defeated Blue Bulls 31-30 in their previous Super Rugby match which was played in Pretoria, South Africa last weekend. This was Kings' second consecutive victory in this competition. Prior to that they had lost two games in a row against Brumbies at home and Golden Lions away.

Meanwhile, Cheetahs were defeated 40-34 by Stormers in their previous Super Rugby match which was played in Bloemfontein, South Africa las weekend. Prior to that Cheetahs had recorded a 47-7 victory over Sunwolves in this tournament and this remains their last away victory. Kings and Cheetahs are placed 11th and 17th respectively on the 2017 Super Rugby overall standings. Kings and Cheetahs have met three times in the Super Rugby. The latter have dominated winning all three matches.
