World No.1 Iga Swiatek will be looking to reach her second
French Open final in three years when she faces Daria Kasatkina in the semi-finals on Thursday, June 2.
The Pole won her maiden Glam Slam singles title in 2020 when she beat Sofia Kenin in straight sets at Roland Garros to become the youngest champion on the Paris clay since Rafael Nadal in 2005.
Swiatek saw her title defence come to an end at the quarter-final stage last year when she lost to Maria Sakkari in straight sets.
The 21-year-old, who also made it to the last four at the 2022 Australian Open, dropped just one set en route to the semis, having come from behind to defeat Qinwen Zheng 6-7, 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth round.
Swiatek took her winning streak to 33 matches with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Jessica Pegula in the quarters to close within one of equalling the record set by Serena Williams in 2013.
However, the No.1 seed is refusing to be distracted by the prospect of surpassing Williams' impressive feat, insisting she is just looking ahead to her next match.
"[T]here's no point of thinking, 'Oh, this streak is getting long. When am I going to lose?' Or, I don't know, is it even possible to win so many matches?" she told the WTA Insider Podcast.
"I just don't think about it. I honestly kind of believe that the sky's the limit and I can go even forward. That kind of attitude of just looking forward, not thinking what's already happened really helped me because I'm also saving energy by not doing that. I'm pretty proud of myself."
