World No. 22 Sam Burns will be the second-highest ranked player in the field at the
3M Open when the event tees off on Thursday, July 24.
The American is just one of 11 inside the OWGR top-50 set to take to the course in Blaine, Minnesota which sees four of the former five champions make their return.
Burns will be appearing at the tournament for the fourth time and hopes to eclipse the T7 he achieved in 2019 which remains his best result to date.
The 28-year-old golfer has five PGA Tour wins under his belt, narrowly missing out on a sixth when he lost to New Zealander Ryan Fox in a playoff at the Canadian Open in June.
Burns has achieved another three top-10 finishes this year - a T8 at The Sentry, a T5 at the Byron Nelson and a T7 at the US Open.
Just one week after finishing second at the Canadian Open, he was in contention to win his first major at the US Open when he led going into the final round, but it all went pear-shaped at the 15th.
Burns' tee shot caught the right side of the fairway and found his ball in temporary water, but after being denied relief by two separate officials, he pulled his approach into the rough to the left of the green, ultimately leading to a double bogey.
"That fairway slopes left to right; that's kind of the low part of the fairway. When I walked into it, clearly you could see water coming up. Took practice swings and it's just water splashing every single time," he said of the ruling.
"I'm extremely proud of the way I fought out there today. At the end of the day, I can hold my head high."
