Football's best friends

Footballers build working relationships to achieve the same goal and some have gone on to become best friends.

Here are players, who are best friends on and off the field.

Gareth Bale and Luka Modric

Gareth Bale and Luka Modric were reportedly very close at Tottenham Hotspurs where they spent five years together before the latter moved to Real Madrid in 2012.

The duo later reunited at Real when Bale secured a move to the Spanish giants in the 2013 and they are usually seen sharing jokes during training sessions and before games.

"Gareth and I are very similar. We are shy and sometimes we don't talk much," Modric told Club del Deportista.

"Gareth speaks and understands Spanish, and there is a good atmosphere and he gets along very well with his team-mates and is delighted to enjoy Madrid and the best club in the world."

Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny

The France national team players are best of pals, having known each other since their days together at Arsenal FC.

Giroud left the Gunners for their local rivals Chelsea in 2018, but the two players have been seen together off the pitch in the city of London.

Mohamed Salah and Dejan Lovren

The pair has struck up a friendship since Salah moved to Liverpool FC from AS Roma in 2017 and Lovren made sure he felt at home at the English club.

The two players have since been inseparable as they are usually seen spending time together off the field and making fun of each other on social media.

Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi

The bond between Suarez and Messi has formed naturally since the former joined FC Barcelona from Liverpool in 2014 and since then have accumulated a lot of success on the pitch.

The two forwards have been inseparable on and off the pitch as they can be seen attending social events together during the offseason.

“Leo is my colleague and friend, a fine person and a great family man,” Suarez told Kicker.

“We enjoy having fun, drinking mate, sometimes eating together. This has resulted in a beautiful relationship. And over time a big trust as well.

“In football it is difficult to find a real friend, especially if he plays in the same position. There are also many egos in a team. That was never the case in our team. That has been proven over the years."

Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo

The two Portuguese speaking footballers became friends at Real Madrid and were known for the pranks they pulled on each other.

Ronaldo left Real for Juventus at the end of the 2017/18 season and Marcelo has since been linked with the Italian giants where he could reunite with his good friend.
