South Africans have the opportunity to relive some of the memories from the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. FIFA and sponsors Coca-Cola brought the famous Jules Rimet Trophy to the country as part of the Coca-Cola’s
World Cup™ Trophy Tour.
The trophy will tour South Africa between the first and third of March, visiting Johannesburg and Cape Town. This tour is aimed at keeping the interest alive as the countdown is already underway.
As for the rest of Africa, Uganda will have an opportunity to see the trophy as it will be on display for two days at Lugogo Stadium on the 5
th of March.
Between 7th and 10th of March, Nigeria will also host the trophy in Abuja and Lagos, then Senegal on March 11 and Cote D’Ivoire two days later.
To wrap up the tour will be the Egyptians on March 15 before it departs from the continent as the Africans will pin their hopes on Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Nigeria in Russia 2018.
#FUNFACT. The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy was introduced in 1974. It is made of 18 karat gold with a malachite base, it stands 36.8 centimeters high and weighs 6.1 kilograms. The trophy was made by Stabilimento Artistico Bertoni Company in Italy. It depicts two human figures holding up the Earth. The current holder of the trophy is Germany, winner of the 2014 World Cup™ in Brazil.

- Created by the Frenchmen Jules Rimet, the first World Cup took place in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1930. He was inspired by the success of the Olympic Games, had the idea of bringing nations together through soccer.
- In the twenty previous editions of the World Cup, the team with the most trophies is Brazil. They have won the competition on five occasions, taking the trophy home in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002. As well as being the only country with the most amount of World Cup trophies, Brazil is also the only team to have participated in every edition of the World Cup.
- The World Cup's top scorer is the retired German striker Miroslav Klose who, in 24 games over four tournaments (2002, 2006, 2010, 2014) scored a total of 16 goals.

- In qualification for the World Cup, Spain and Germany are the only national teams who have managed to win ten out of ten games. In Spain's case, they managed this in 2010, while Germany achieved it in qualification for the 2018 World Cup which will take place in Russia.
- Uruguay in 1930, Italy in 1934, England in 1966, Germany in 1974, Argentina in 1978 and France in 1998. They all became champions of the world in their own country, meaning the host has won in six of the 20 previous editions.
- In the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, there are a total of 14 European, 5 African, 4 Asian, 4 South American and 3 North American countries that will take part in the World Cup next year. The remaining two spots are left for countries to win in the playoffs.
