City came home fifth in last season’s league championship, claiming 40 points from their 30 matches. Coach Benni McCarthy will be under pressure to see the Cape side compete more strongly with the PSL’s traditional heavyweights.
The Citizens’ home form saw them pick up 23 points from 15 matches, as they recorded seven wins, two draws and six defeats as hosts through the 2017/18 season.
City’s work in the transfer market has included the signings of Gift Links, Siphelele Mthembu and Kouassi Kouadja, while the likes of Shu-Aib Walters, Robyn Johannes and Tshepo Gumede have departed.
SuperSport only just edged into the top half of the Absa Premiership last term, picking up 39 points from their 30 matches to end in seventh place. Coach Kaitano Tembo, who took over the reins from Eric Tinkler last season on a caretaker basis, has remained in charge and will look to repay the club’s faith in him.
Matsatsantsa’s away form saw them pick up 15 points from as many matches, as they recorded three wins, six draws and six defeats as visitors through the 2017/18 season.
SuperSport’s work in the transfer market has included the signings of Washington Arubi, James Keene and Fagrie Lakay, while the likes of Tefu Mashamaite, Kingston Nkhatha and Denwin Farmer have left the club.
In head-to-head stats, City and SuperSport have met in four league matches since the start of the 2016/17 season. Three matches have finished in draws, while the only victory went the way of SuperSport, who claimed a 4-2 win in May 2017.
Last season the teams cancelled each other out, drawing 1-1 in Tshwane and 0-0 in Cape Town, to share the points from both of their league meetings.
