Pep Guardiola will surely be hailed as a king after his efforts this season. The Citizens dispatched Arsenal twice in the space of four days by the same 3-0 scoreline, first to secure the Carabao Cup and the Spaniards first piece of silverware as manager in England on Sunday and then again at the Emirates on Thursday to see his side move 16 points clear of neighbours Manchester United at the top of the league. Wigan’s shock result that dumped City of the FA Cup was just the third time all season that Manchester City have tasted defeat and with just 10 matches left to play this season, they need just five more victories to seal the deal domestically which would allow them to turn their attention to winning a maiden European cup, the UEFA Champions League.

Chelsea will take to the field on Sunday for the first time since their defeat to City’s cross-town rivals United a week ago. Jose Mourinho orchestrated a marvellous come-from-behind 2-1 win against his former club as the mini revival under Antonio Conte in recent weeks seemingly stalled. With the manager’s future uncertain, results have taken a turn for the worse with just four wins from 13 matches in all competitions in 2018, despite their strong showing against Barcelona in the Champions League and fact that they are still in the FA Cup. Following last weekend’s defeat to the Red Devils though, the Blues now find themselves out of the top four, two points behind Tottenham in their quest for top-flight European action once more next season.

Chelsea did the double over City last season as they stormed to the title, but Pep will be looking to get even with Conte having already beaten them 1-0 at Stamford Bridge earlier on in the campaign courtesy of Kevin De Bruyne. In 42 Premier League meetings however, Chelsea hold the far better record in the head-to-head between two sides who have recently proven that money can indeed buy success with seven of the last 13 league triumphs going either the way of Chelsea or Manchester City.

Chelsea’s victory at the Etihad in December 2016 was their first away win over City since February 2014 with those being the only two times they’ve managed to come away with all three points in nine attempts dating back to their last win in September 2008 when they came from behind to a fantastic Robinho free-kick on debut  Sergio Aguero has netted five times in his last five league appearances against Chelsea including that stunning hat-trick in April 2016 while Chelsea’s major threat comes in the form of Eden Hazard who has four goals the same period. He was on the scoresheet when Chelsea ran out 3-1 winners in the corresponding fixture last season.
