The
Premier League is a football league like no other. A league filled with drama, goals, excitement and a whole lot more that makes watching all 380 games worthwhile. AND IT’S BACK!!!
The Premier League kicks off with defending champions Liverpool taking on Bournemouth. Huge signings made by the defending champions, Liverpool, make them worthy contenders to retain their crown come the end of the season. Club record signing Florian Wirtz is looking to make his name amongst the Red’s supporters while Jeremie Frimpong could be a worthy replacement for recently departed Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Aston Villa versus Newcastle United makes for a big clash on Saturday when Newcastle make the trip to Villa Park after just pipping them to the post and getting that final Champions League qualifying place. Both teams finished last season with 66 points, with Newcastle edging the Villains on goal difference to get the place. Brighton versus Fulham kickstart their season campaigns, both finishing mid-table, and this match could bring a lot of goals and give us a preview of what’s to come in the new season. Sunderland makes their return to topflight football for the first time in 8 years, when they host West Ham at the Stadium of Light. Graham Potter has brought in Kyle Walker-Pieters, who can give fellow right back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka a run for his money in starting at right back. Tottenham Hotspur, fresh from winning their first trophy since 2008, the UEFA Europa League, host newly promoted Burnley. Mohammed Kudus, Spurs’ newest signing, has the makings and capabilities to twist and turn through the opposition defenders and bring many goals to the Spurs faithful. Thomas Frank wants to get his tenor as Tottenham manager off to a winning start after replacing Ange Postecoglou in the hot seat, who was sacked at the end of last season. Wolves are in action against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who in turn have brought in some stars, including Wolves’ Rayan Aït-Nouri. Injury hit Rodri is hoping to get back to his best, which won him the Ballon d’Or in 2024 while Erling Haaland will be wanting to regain the golden boot come the end of the season.
Chelsea, fresh from being crowned World Champions at the FIFA Club World Cup held in the USA, take on FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at Stanford Bridge. Cole Palmer will be looking to get back to his best scoring form while Palace ace, Eberechi Eze, will be wanting to guide the Eagles to a top half finish in the table. Nottingham Forest begin their season at home to Brentford where top scorer for last season, Chris Wood is keen to grow that goal scoring tally for Forest again, while Brentford will be without their top scorer from last season, Bryan Mbeumo, who recently signed for Manchester United and, in all likelihood their other star man Yoane Wissa, who has been linked with a move away from The Bees.
The pick of the weekend fixtures takes place at The Theatre of Dreams, Old Trafford, with Manchester United and Arsenal going head-to-head. United had their worst ever season last year, finishing in 15th place, while Arsenal finished worthy runners up, though some 10 points adrift of Liverpool. United have brought in Matheus Cunha, who takes the number 10 shirt from Marcus Rashford, who has left the club for Barcelona, and Bryan Mbeumo, who no doubt is looking to make a big impact for the Red Devils. Arsenal have made some big signings with Martin Zubimendi joining the Gunners to bolster their midfield as well as Noni Mudueke and incoming striker Viktor Gyokeres, a signing Arsenal have needed for many seasons. He may be the final piece of the puzzle for Mikel Arteta who will be hoping to land Arsenal’s first league title since 2004.
The opening fixtures conclude with Championship winners, Leeds United hosting Everton. Everton are moving into their new stadium and will want to get off to a winning start before the grand opening the following week.
We are in for a great weekend’s play and one big season, 380 games of all out action. Should you wish to place wagers for the season, please do so and remember to play responsibly!
