Protea’s star Ryan Rickleton has urged the Proteas to better their showings with the bat as South Africa prepare to take on Australia in two crucial
T20 series fixtures this week.
South Africa commenced the three-match T20 Series on the wrong foot after Australia claimed a 17-run victory at the TIO Stadium last Sunday.
While South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl, Australia put up a 178 score that was boosted by Tim David, who put 83 runs off 52 balls. Davids immediately showcased his intent as he powered his way at the crease with eight sixes and four fours to his name.
Nevertheless, South Africa replied with 161 runs over 20 overs thereafter, as Rickelton posted 71 runs, while Tristan Stubbs and Lhuan-dre Pretorius contributed with 37 and 14 runs respectively.
Australia took a 1-0 lead into the series and will once again do battle at the TIO Stadium on Tuesday, before heading to the last game in Cairns this weekend.
Reflecting on South Africa’s performance, Rickelton believes that the Protrea’s need to be better with their batting after the first tie.
“There are one or two things to tweak in the batting, and hopefully we can create a bit better of a platform to start off with,” Rickelton said.
“The guys are pretty confident with what we have in the changing room, and we will be looking to bring out something better on Tuesday.
