Max Verstappen will be hoping to successfully defend the Belgian Grand Prix title having won last year's race in his home country.

The Belgian star became the third Red Bull Racing driver to win the Belgian Grand Prix after Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo.

Verstappen is in top form at the moment having won the last two races in the current campaign - the French Grand Prix on July 24 and Hungarian Grand Prix on July 31.

The 34th Formula One World Drivers' champion was his element in Hungaroring, Budapest as he finished the 70-lap race in an hour, 39 minutes and 35.912 seconds.

The Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finished second and third respectively having also finished in the same positions at the French Grand Prix.

Therefore Verstappen is still at the top of the 2022 Drivers' Championship standings and he is followed by Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and his Red Bull Racing-RBPT teammate Sergio Perez.

Verstappen will extend his lead at the top of the standing if he wins this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix and also edge closer to retaining the Formula One World Championship.

"I was at first hoping that I could get close to a podium," Verstappen said after winning the Hungarian Grand Prix for the first time in his budding career.

"Very tricky conditions out there but we had a really good strategy. We were really reactive and always pitting at the right time.

"I thought we had some good out laps, and at the end – even with the 360 – we won the race. It was a crazy race and I’m of course very happy that we won it."

Red Bull Racing-RBPT are placed at the top of the Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Ferrari and Mercedes respectively.
