Monster Energy Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo will look to extend his lead at the top of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship when Round 10, the Styrian Grand Prix, roars into action at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria on the afternoon of Sunday 8 August 2021.

Quartararo has been the dominant force of this year’s MotoGP, claiming four victories from the previous nine races, as well as a further four top-six finishes. The Frenchman tops the standings with 156 points, enjoying a 34-point lead over nearest chaser, compatriot Johann Zarco of Pramac Ducati.

The 22-year-old Quartararo will hope that his Yamaha performs as strongly at the Red Bull Ring as it did at the last round in the Netherlands, where claimed victory at the Dutch TT in Assen back in late June.

“To be honest, Austria is a track that last year was a disaster for us, but I think more because of all the problems that we had last year in the braking," said Quartararo. “For me, the bike has improved a lot in the braking area. Our holeshot device is also working better. The electronics… So I think Austria is not a bad track for us.

"I think it’s going to be okay. Of course, we miss the top speed, but in 2019 I was able to finish on the podium and Maverick [Vinales] and Vale [Valentino Rossi] finished 4th and 5th. So it’s not a bad track for Yamaha, just not the easiest one."

Zarco and third-placed Francesco Bagnaia, who rides for the Lenovo Ducati team, will be hoping that the extra ‘oomph’ of their Italian machines comes to the fore on the power sensitive Spielberg track in what is sure to be a thrilling MotoGP battle.
