Prima Pramac Racing's Jorge Martin is looking to maintain his consistent start to the season on home soil at Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, April 28.

The Spaniard has opened up a 21-point lead over Ducati Lenovo Team's Enea Bastianini in the riders' standings after finishing on the podium in two of the opening three races.

Martin won the Portuguese Grand Prix and claimed P3 in the Qatar Grand Prix two weeks earlier, while he narrowly missed out on a third straight podium with a P4 in Grand Prix of the Americas.

The 26-year-old rider also finished on the podium in all three sprints and admits that consistency is the key to winning a first championship, having come up just short in 2023 after faltering in the final three rounds.

However, Martin still views reigning world champion Francesco Bagnaia as the favourite to retain his crown and believes that Bastianini and Pedro Acosta could also pose a threat to his title ambitions.

"I think there are a lot of riders that can fight for the championship and Pecco [Bagnaia] is still the favourite because he won last season. He's the number one," Martin said.

"The rivals are strong. We have Marc [Marquez], even Pedro [Acosta] is really, really, really good and constant. So we never know. Enea is also super strong for all the weekends. So the important thing is that we are fast everywhere and we need to be focused on that.

"It's history, that all the champions were constant. So we need to be constant. I think we are doing a great job, five podiums out of six.

"So we need to keep this way of working and if a bad weekend is fourth place, I can be super happy and when I have the chance I have to go for the win. That's my target."

2024 Grand Prix of the Americas results:

Winner: Maverick Vinales - Aprilia Racing
Second Place: Pedro Acosta - Red Bull GasGas Tech3
Third Place: Enea Bastianini - Ducati Lenovo Team
