Bayern Munich will go head to head with Villarreal CF in a UEFA Champions League quarter-final second-leg match on April 12.

The German champions succumbed to a 1-0 loss to Villarreal away in the first-leg encounter at the Estadio de la Cerámica in Spain on April 6.

The defeat ended Bayern's nine-match unbeaten run in this competition having recorded seven victories and one draw.

However, the Bavarians are undefeated in their last four home matches in the Champions League having registered four consecutive wins as the hosts.

"We didn't play well today in any area. The fact it's just 1-0 means we've got confidence for the second leg. We'll show another side to us. We deserved to lose," Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann said after their loss to Villarreal.

"We weren't good today. We had very little power in our defending in the first half and no chances to score. The second half was somewhat wild and we didn't have control. Villarreal did well. They're a team that can play their way out.

"The idea for the second half was to have more possession and play the ball out to the wings. But we didn't really manage that so well."

Meanwhile, Villarreal will be looking to cause a major shock by securing a victory at Bayern's iconic home ground, Allianz Arena and progress to the semi-finals.

The win over Bayern extended the Spanish side's unbeaten run to four matches in this competition having recorded three wins and one draw.

Villarreal are also undefeated in their last three away matches in the Champions League having registered three successive wins on the road.

The last time Bayern hosted Villarreal in a Champions League game was on 22 November 2011.

Bayern thrashed Villarreal 3-1 in a Group A encounter that was played at the iconic Allianz Arena.
