The 2017 US Open which is the 137th edition of the tournament will take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center from August 28 to September 10. Swiss player Stan Wawrinka heads into the 2017 tournament as the reigning men's singles champion - having defeated Serbian star Novak Djokovic in last year's final.

Wawrinka will face stiff competition from Span's Rafael Nadal, British star Andy Murry and Swiss superstar Roger Federer, who are placed first, second and third respectively on the World rankings. Meanwhile, Angelique Kerber, who hails from Germany, is the ladies' singles defending champion as she defeated Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova in the 2016 final.

With American star Serena Williams not competing in this year's tournament, Kerber will be wary of the likes of World No1 Pliskova, Romanian star Simona Halep and Spain's Garbine Muguruza. In the men's doubles, Brazilian Bruno Soares and British star Jamie Murray, who is Andy's older brother, are the defending champions.

American Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Czech Republic's Lucie Safarova are the reigning ladies' doubles champions.
