Red Bull driver Max Verstappen will be eyeing a winning start to the 2021 campaign at the Bahrain Grand Prix title on March 28.

The Belgian star, who is the son of former Formula One driver Jos Verstappen, is expected to challenge for this season's Drivers' Championship title.

Verstappen finished the 2019 and 2020 championships in third place behind Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

As a teenager, Verstappen became the youngest driver to compete in Formula One when he participated in the 2015 Australian Grand Prix at the age of 17 years, 166 days.

Verstappen spent the 2015 season with Scuderia Toro Rosso and he started his 2016 campaign with the Italian team before being promoted to parent team Red Bull Racing.

At the age of 18, Verstappen won the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix on his debut for Red Bull Racing, becoming the youngest-ever driver and the first Dutch driver to win a Formula One Grand Prix.

The Hasselt-born star will now be looking to become the first Belgian driver to win the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend.

Verstappen has insisted that Mercedes are the favourites ahead of the Formula One season which starts in Bahrain.

“I know people are excited and think we are just saying this," Verstappen said.

"But Mercedes are still the favourites – how can they not be when they have won seven world championships in a row?

“I’m sure Mercedes also want people to think we are the favourites and put the pressure on us, but we are just focussed on ourselves," he added.

"You can be sure that everyone in this team and at Honda is pushing to beat them and anyone else who may be quick this year."
