Cell C Sharks will be looking to cause an upset against Vodacom Bulls in the Currie Cup final at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on January 30.

The Sharks eased into the final after brushing aside DHL Western Province 19-9 away in the semi-finals in Cape Town on January 23.

The Durban giants are underdogs heading into the final and they will take heart from the fact that they defeated the Bulls in the regular season.

The Sharks were inconsistent in the regular season, but they managed to qualify for the knockout phase after finishing third on the standings.

Sean Everitt's side registered seven wins, three defeats and two draws - collecting 35 points from 12 games.

Everitt, the Sharks head coach, pointed out the threat that Bulls loose-forwards Marco van Staden and Duane Vermeulen will pose at the breakdown in the final.

"Going to the highveld will pose different challenges. It’s usually dry there, unless there is a thunderstorm in the afternoon," Everitt said.

"So we will go back home and put a nice plan together so that we are able to come out on top in the final. The Bulls forwards have always been dominant as a pack. They are a powerful unit. They can mix up their game well with counter-attacks and they play well from turnovers.

"It all comes from pressure at breakdown. Marco van Staden and Duane Vermeulen have been huge in that area. The Bulls have shown they are the form side. They are going to be a massive challenge up at Loftus."

The Sharks are keen to win the Currie Cup for the ninth time this year having clinched their last title in 2018.

A victory over the Bulls will see the Sharks move closer to the Xeros Lions, who have won 11 titles.

The last competitive match meeting between Bulls and Sharks was on 12 December 2020.

The Sharks emerged 32-29 winners over the Bulls in a game which was played at the Jonsson Kings Park Stadium.
