With the 2025 Rugby Championship blown wide open following the last round of results, the Springboks are hoping to end their final home test on a high when they take on Argentina in Durban on Saturday.

South Africa were back to their very best against New Zealand last time out and recorded a mammoth 43-10 win against the All Blacks at the Wellington Regional Stadium on Saturday, 13 September.

After inflicting New Zealand’s worst ever home defeat in Wellington, South Africa springboarded into second on the table, one point behind the resurgent Wallabies.

With the hopes of retaining the Rugby Championship title, Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus urged his troops to end their last home test of the year on a positive note.

“This match is significant in many ways,” said Erasmus at the weekend.

“It’s not only essential to get a good result to stay in the running to defend our title, but it’s also our last home game of the year, and we want to thank our fans for their passionate support throughout the year.

“That said, we are under no illusions that it’s going to take a top-class performance to achieve our goal in this match, but we will leave no stone unturned in trying to achieve that.”

Argentina recently concluded two gruelling tests against Australia and last saw out a 28-26 win at the Allianz Stadium on 13 September.

With only two wins to their name in the Rugby Championship, Los Pumas occupy fourth position, three points behind Australia, ahead of their double-header against South Africa.

Reflecting on his side’s win against Australia, Argentina coach Felipe Contepomi was left frustrated at a few refereeing decisions but at the same time, noted his side’s errors throughout the 80 minutes.

"For me, it's not about winning, it's about how you win, how you do things. We are playing against a great team,” Contepomi said after the match.

“Australia came back, they are a very good team that they play wonderful rugby, and you know we need to acknowledge that, and we don't control that either. But the things that we control, our errors, we make, we take accountability.”
