Red Devils target three points at home

2019/20 Premier League

Round 22

10-12 January 2020

Manchester United will be confident of a three-point haul in the Premier League when they welcome strugglers Norwich City to Old Trafford on Saturday 11 January 2020, kick-off at 17:00. The match is one of 10 spread across the weekend of 10-12 January for Round 22 of the current English top-flight season.

Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki

United’s hopes of making up ground on the top four were dealt a major when they were beaten 2-0 at Arsenal last midweek, with the Red Devils putting in an insipid and uninspired performance. They were a little better in drawing 0-0 with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup this past weekend, but the pressure is growing on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“We've got to play well, perform and be positive because we want a reaction after a defeat at Arsenal. Everybody said it was a bad, bad performance but it was a good game between good teams,” said the United manager.

Norwich’s last Premier League outing was a 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace, and the Canaries now find themselves a full points adrift at the bottom of the log. However, they did beat Preston North End 4-2 in the FA Cup to boost their self belief.

“To win is always good for the mood and the confidence. To be through to the next round is quite good, especially in this game,” said manager Daniel Farke. “It was the fifth game in 14 days and Preston away is a really tough place to go. They have the best home record in the Championship and to win comfortably is good for the mood.”

Manchester United winger Daniel James

In head-to-head terms, Man United and Norwich have met in 52 previous matches. The Red Devils have claimed 32 wins compared to 10 for the Canaries, while 10 games have been drawn.

United claimed an emphatic 3-1 win at Carrow Road when the teams met earlier this Premier League season, with Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial netting in the clash back in October 2019.
