Ireland vs South Africa

Aviva Stadium

Dublin, Ireland

Saturday, 22 November 2025

Kick-off is at 19:40

As arguably the standout fixture of international rugby this weekend, South Africa will hope to end their three-match losing streak at the Aviva Stadium when they take on Ireland in Dublin this Saturday.

The Springboks have lost each of their last three visits at the Aviva Stadium, after recording 29-15 in 2014, 38-3 in 2017 and a 19-16 defeat in 2022.

However, the World Number one side will go into their next game on the back of impressive 14-man wins against both France and Italy.

As for Ireland, the seasoned contenders bagged big wins over Japan and Australia recently, with their most notable victory being a 46-19 result against the Wallabies at the Aviva last Saturday.

In preparation for the upcoming tie, Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus roped in experienced hooker Bongi Mbonambi and prop Ntuthuko Mchunu, as he hopes to deepen the depth pool for this weekend’s clash.

“This is a longer tour than usual, and we have two big matches lined up against Ireland and Wales, which prompted the decision to call up Bongi and Ntuthuko,” Erasmus said.

“Both players have done the job for us on the international stage, so we are excited to have them in the group.

“Several players will not be eligible for selection for the final Test on tour against Wales, as the match falls outside of the international window, so it makes sense to call up the players now to get back into the swing of things with us at training this week, while at the same time increasing the depth we have within the squad for our next challenge against Ireland.”

As for Ireland coach Andy Farrel, the 50-year-old mentor expressed his excitement at testing his squad against the number one ranked rugby side in the world.

"[They are] the best in the world. Everyone's talking about them and the type of rugby that they're playing," Farrell uttered.

"A rich vein of form and rightly so. They've played some brilliant stuff.

"It's a fantastic way to finish off our autumn. The last game at the Aviva. The lads will know what it means to everyone in Irish rugby as well, so we'll look forward to that."
