2023/24 English Premier League
Matchday 14

Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur

Etihad Stadium
Manchester, England
Sunday, 3 December 2023
Kick-off is at 18h30

Manchester City will be keen to pile more misery on Tottenham when they go head to head at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, December 3 in the late-kick-off.

Spurs were one of the frontrunners in the Premier League after going unbeaten in their opening 10 games and sitting at the summit for three consecutive weeks.

However, the honeymoon period is definitely over for Ange Postecoglou after his side suffered three defeats on the spin, having squandered the lead on each occasion against Chelsea, Wolves and Aston Villa.

The 3-1 reverse at home to Villa on November 26 saw the North Londoners drop out of the top four to fifth place, four points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.

City's 15-match winning streak on home soil finally came to an end on matchday 12 following a 1-1 draw with Liverpool, who became the first team to pick up a point at Eastlands in 2023.

Pep Guardiola's side got pushed down to second position by the Gunners courtesy of their dramatic late 1-0 victory over Brentford, which took them a point clear at the top of the table.

Phil Foden looked City's most dangerous player against the Reds, hitting the target with three of this four shots at goal. The winger had the second-least touches in the team with 51, but used the ball to good effect when he got into the final third.

Son Heung-Min seemed to be in the right place at the right time against the Villans, but had three goals ruled out for offside as Spurs created numerous chances, only to be undone by two clinical finishes. The South Korean striker has already scored eight goals this season, but went without scoring for a third successive game.

Guardiola admitted he would savour the point gained against the Reds after a controlled performance from his players to restrict the opposition's chances at goal.

"We are hungry and upset in the locker room, but it was an incredibly great game," the Spaniard said. "Statistics or who deserved it more, it doesn't count. I am going to drink my wine with one point.

"I am incredibly pleased about the performance we played because Liverpool are an incredible team. We conceded just two chances against that team. The header in the first half and goal.

"After eight years, it was really good to perform in that way. I am so proud of my team. We travel with the ball all together. We played really good. I know after eight years."

Postecoglou hailed another committed effort from Spurs and insisted he felt no frustration at losing for the third time in a row.

"Tough outcome but I couldn't be happier with the way the boys played - I'm really proud of them," he told Sky Sports. "I thought we played some fantastic football and on another day we'd have probably won the game comfortably.

"I can't fault the effort, the intent and everything they put into the game. There's no frustration. We played well and as a manager that's all you can ask for.

"Sometimes the outcomes don't go the way you want but as a manager you're looking for how the players are committed to what we're trying to do and they were totally committed to it today."
