Matchday 38

Brighton & Hove Albion v Manchester United

Kick-off is at 17h00

Brighton will be looking to secure Europa League football when they host Manchester United at the Amex on the final day of the season on Sunday, May 24.

The Seagulls are locked in a fierce battle with Bournemouth, Chelsea, Brentford and Sunderland for the final three European places.

Fabian Hurzeler's side missed out on the opportunity to overtake the Cherries into sixth position after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Leeds on May 17, which left them only point clear of the Blues (8th) and the Bees (9th) in seventh position.

Bournemouth are just three points above Albion with an inferior goal difference and they face Liverpool at Anfield in the final round.

The Red Devils nailed down third spot with a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on May 17 as Michael Carrick achieved what many thought unthinkable when he replaced Ruben Amorim at the helm in January.

United are believed to be ready to hand Carrick a two-year contract as permanent head coach after his side beat Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool on the way to qualifying for the UEFA Champions League,

Carrick's record has been impressive since returning to Old Trafford, registering 11 wins, three draws and just two defeats to finish above the Villans and the Reds.

Carrick spoke about what is needed for the club to go to the next level which is challenging for the league title for the first time since 2012-13.

"There are two sides to it, I think. Understanding the position of where we want to get to, compared to where we've been. Understanding what steps that will take," he said.

"I do genuinely think it was a fantastic achievement to get where we are, the players deserve a lot of credit for that. You just want to keep improving. The higher up the league you go, the harder it gets.

"You have got to make big steps but it's harder to make those steps. Evolving the group is one thing for sure, that's no negative on the group as it is now, you just want to keep pushing forward.

"We've got a really good group of players that we want to keep trying to improve and get better. If that's additions, that's additions. Some of the younger players will be better for it as well with another season of experience at this club.

"You just want to keep moving forward, there's no magic ingredient to doing that. It's hard work, bit of brains and a bit of having good players as well."
