2026 Monster Energy Grand Prix of Catalunya or Catalan MotoGP
Round 6
Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya
Montmeló, Barcelona, Spain
Sunday, 17 May 2026
The 2026 Catalan MotoGP heads to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend as the championship battle intensifies.
What to know about the Catalan MotoGP
This event has been held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya since 1992 (initially as the European GP before becoming the Catalan GP).
Built in 1991, the 4.657 km track features a mix of long straights (including a 1,047m main straight), fast sweeping corners, and technical sections, creating an all-rounder layout that rewards both power and precision. It has been a staple on the calendar and a favorite for Spanish fans.
Most recent race
The French MotoGP (Round 5 at Le Mans) took place on 10 May 2026.
Jorge Martin (Aprilia) took victory ahead of teammate Marco Bezzecchi, with Ai Ogura (Trackhouse Aprilia) completing a strong podium for the manufacturer.
Standings
Marco Bezzecchi leads the 2026 MotoGP riders' standings by just one point over teammate Jorge Martin after strong consistency for Aprilia.
Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati) and Pedro Acosta (KTM) follow closely in the top four.
In the constructors' standings, Aprilia has shown impressive early-season form, challenging Ducati's traditional dominance, with KTM in contention.
Favourites
With the season heating up, all eyes are on championship leaders Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin, alongside home heroes like Pedro Acosta and Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati).
Di Giannantonio and Ai Ogura will also fancy their chances with Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) sidelined due to a fractured metatarsal and recent shoulder surgery following his crash at Le Mans.
Quotes
"For the future, we need to try to understand what we have to change to prepare the race because right now this is the key," six-placed Raul Fernandez of Trackhouse Aprilia said after his 8th-place finish at the 2026 French MotoGP.
"I’m happy for Aprilia, they are doing a really great job and we are not far from them, but we have to improve Qualifying and overtaking.
“I need and we need to understand a few things heading into Catalunya to take another small step forward. I’m sure the team will crack it - zero doubts! See you in Montmeló or what? ”
