Mike and Mathew de Kock have a number of runners this next week, starting with four entries on the big sprint festival day at
HWB Scottsville on Saturday. Mat also filed comments for next week’s meetings at Turffontein and HWB Greyville.
HWB SCOTTSVILLE, SATURDAY 31 MAY:
Race 3, 1600m: “
Greenhouse is in good form at home, we’re expecting a nice run from a good draw. A place chance for her.”
Race 4,1500m: “It was good to see
Ingqwele score a deserved win last time, and he did so in good style. He remains in good form and we think he can back it up with another win, if not that, a top 3-placing.”
Race 6: “We were left scratching our heads when
I’m A Fireball ran unplaced last time as we expected much better from him after his impressive debut win. We couldn’t put a finger on the reason for why he was so disappointing, but we’ve elected to give him the benefit of the doubt and take our chances in this Grade 1. We’re putting blinkers on, every now and again he tends to look around -which may have been the reason for his poor run last time. This will help him concentrate and if he puts his best foot forward there is no reason why he can’t be competitive.”
Race 9, 1200m: “
Miss Argonaut hasn’t run for 441 days so she will make natural improvement with the run. Her work is very good at home, the kind of work that looks good enough to win this race. The question is whether she is fit enough, and that only the race will show. We’ve done as much as we can with her. If she doesn’t win this or go close, she will be one to follow.”
TURFFONTEIN, TUESDAY 3 JUNE
Race 2, 1160m: “A debut run for
Queen Of Pearls, who is showing some quality work. She is by Hawwaam, will need further but looks quite forward so will have eachway claims.”
Race 3, 1160m: “
Jan van Goyen is also showing some good work at home. He is drawn one, and we know it can be quite difficult from there, especially first time out. But he looks promising, so it wouldn’t surprise us if he won the race. If he is out of the first three, we will be disappointed.”
Race 5, 1600m: “
Firestarter pulled very hard in his last start, so we’ve made a couple a changes. He ran well first time out when he was switched off and settled, so we’ll ask Callan Murray to ride him cold in this run as he was ridden in his first start. Hopefully he can finish the race off as well as he did, then. He has a Place chance.”
Race 8, 1160m: “
Gimmeanotherchance invariably flatters to deceive, he always shows good work and doesn’t deliver on the track. We’re bringing him back to a sprint, something different. It’s a strong field and we are experimenting with his distance range and hoping he can show some enthusiasm again.”
Race 9, 1600m: “
Great Notion was very unlucky in running last time. It looked like she was going to be in the first three if she had a clear passage. So consider her form in the light of that. She could easily run into the money here.”
HWB GREYVILLE, WEDNESDAY:
Race 4, 1600m: “Another winning chance for
Cherry Oh Baby. She has been knocking at the door with five successive seconds. She is doing well, this looks like the right type of race for her and one of her best runs so far came over 1600m.”
