Mike De Kock's Horse Racing Picks : HWB GREYVILLE POLYTRACK,

Mike and Mathew de Kock have no runners at this weekend’s race meetings, but De Kock Racing has provided previews for the next midweek meetings in Kwazulu-Natal and Gauteng. Mat’s views, below:

HWB GREYVILLE POLYTRACK, Wednesday 25 June:

Race 7, 1400m:Nocturnal Flight has been disappointing of late. We are bringing him back in distance, trying him over 1400m. His form suggests he may well be better over this kind of trip. We’re hoping for an improved run. He has place claims from a good draw.”
TURFFONTEIN (Inside), Thursday 26 June:

Race 1, 1600m: “Limerick Lace didn’t produce her best last time, it came as a shock and a surprise, but she did have some post-race distress. She is much better than that and a better run is expected. Schipole bounced back from her troublesome Maiden and ran much more to our level of expectation when leading all the way in her last start. We expect her to step up well to 1600m, she must have a first-three chance.”

Race 2, 1600m: “Two in this race, as well. We have Read All About It, who acquitted himself well to get third in his first run after being gelded, last time. He is likely to enjoy 1600m. It’s a competitive field, but we think he is a big runner. He’ll certainly be a factor. Take No Prisoners appeared to lose concentration at the back of the field last time and ran a bit of a ‘nothing’ race. We’ll try and be more positive, put him in the race closer to the pace and hopefully he can focus because he is much better than that.”

Race 6, 1000m:Miss Argonaut is a nice filly. She is possible better over 1200m but from a good gate we decided to take our chances here in a 1000m race around the bend. She is a filly with ability and has definite eachway claims.”

Race 7, 1000m:Gimmeforsure was impressive in winning her debut. The rating allocated to her was 83, and that looks like a useful mark, so we’re trying her in a handicap. We would have preferred a lower gate than 8/13, but she should run well. She has the ability to win a race like this.”

Race 8, 1450m: “Here we have Buster Barnes, a four-year-old who was a versatile runner with excellent form in Zimbabwe and is showing us some good work at home. We are pleased with him. He’s obviously going to need the run after a lengthy lay-off, but we expect to see him running on late. If he brings his track work to the races, he is a horse you can follow.”

*** This weekend’s Saturday features, weather permitting, are the Listed Irridesence Stakes and the Grade 3 Langerman, both over 1500m at HWB Kenilworth. The colt’s race (Race 7) could provide Justin Snaith with a follow-up success as he won it last year with Eight On Eighteen, who went on to three spectacular Grade 1 wins after the Langerman. There doesn’t appear to be another Eight On Eighteen in this contest, but none of the seven runners have been exposed enough to make a call, so it’s an interesting affair. Snaith has four runners of which Roland Garros and Randolph Hearst look best, but Vaughan Marshall’s Dreamworld has similarly promising early form. ***

Snaith will saddle more eye-catching runners at HWB Greyville on Sunday, where three feature races dedicated to horses bred in the region, top the bill. The most valuable is Race 8, the KZN Breeders Mile (R650,000) in which Snaith’s up-and-coming Legal Counsel is the one to beat. He is in the 4-1 range on the Betway boards and worth a tickle.
