After tasting success at the Betway Big Easy Tour 5 last time out, England’s Daniel Smith will hope to maintain his spot at the top of the pile when he takes to the Ruimsig Country Club in the Betway Big Easy Blu Label Unlimited Invitational #3 this week.
Smith bagged his maiden win on the tour last Friday, finishing one-stroke ahead over South Africa’s Wandre Snyman at the Akasia Golf Club in Pretoria.
Finishing with seven-under-par 209, Smith also recorded five birdies and dropped three shots as he came from behind to beat Snyman in the final round.
After competing in seven tournaments, Smith currently leads the Order of Merit with 567.36 points, while Jordan Wessels occupies second position with 523.47 points, and Snyman is in third with 526.37 points.
Speaking after his victory at the Akasia Golf Club, and looking ahead to his next challenge, Smith expressed happiness at getting over the line amid a ‘stressful’ outing in Pretoria.
“Today was stressful, actually,” Smith said.
“I started the round a couple behind and then it got quite tight towards the end of the front nine. I thought I was there or thereabout with a few holes to play, and it’s always stressful. So, I am happy to not make too many mistakes coming in.
“Personally, it’s just nice to get it done. Once you’ve been close and you’re not getting it done, it’s a bit of a monkey on your back. But, once you get it off, hopefully, I can push on from here.”
