Some of the best golfers around the world will prepare to line up at the Genesis Scottish Tour this week, as Scottie Scheffler and Rory Mcllroy battle it out at the Renaissance Club. 2025 champion Chris Goterup is also in line for the $9,000,000 purse.
The Scottish Open is one of five tournaments on the Rolex Series, one of the European Tour’s main showpieces. The Scottish Open was co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour in 2022 and serves as the qualifying series for The Open which commences on 16 July at the Royal Birkdale Pro Shop course.
As one of the top contenders at the Scottish Open, Mcllroy will hope to emulate his 2023 showing where he won on debut at the Renaissance Club. Then, in 2025, Mcllroy was one of two golfers placed in second position behind eventual winner Chris Gotterup.
Scheffler heads into the tournament as the player to beat, ranked number one in the world with 682.26 points.
The 30-year-old is also the FedExCup leader, with only one win in 2026 after success at the American Express Tournament in January. Given his status as one of the finest players in the world today, Scheffler leads the Tour with nine top-10 finishes from 14 appearances.
Speaking ahead of the upcoming tournament, Scheffler mentioned that he is bracing himself for a ‘strong’ field of world class contenders.
“I always enjoy coming to the Genesis Scottish Open and taking on the challenge of links-style golf as part of an exciting couple of weeks in the UK,” Scheffler said.
“The tournament always has a strong field, and the Scottish fans help to make it a fun week.”
