The 2023 Australian Open men's singles semi-finals will take centre stage at the Melbourne Park on Friday, January 27.

Karen Khachanov will be hoping to cause an upset when the Russian star takes on Greek superstar Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first semi-final match at 05h30.

The 18th seed beat Sebastian Korda 7-6 6-3 3-0 in a quarter-final match on Tuesday, January 24 and he is hoping to go all the way and clinch his maiden grand slam singles' title.

While third seed Tsitsipas made it six from six in the last eight at majors on Tuesday with a 6-3 7-6 (2) 6-4 victory over Jiri Lehecka, who had never won a grand slam match before arriving in Australia.

Khachanov and Tsitsipas have met six times in professional tournaments since their maiden meeting at the 2017 Shanghai Rolex Masters.

Tsitsipas has the upper hand in this rivalry having won five matches compared to Khachanov's one win.

“Not everything was going as smoothly but I always believe in myself and my abilities and what I need to do in order to be at my best," Khachanov said after defeating Korda.

“So, I think with my team, we are on the right direction and I think this kind of competition in a positive way between us helps us to get better.”

The other Australian Open semi-final match will feature one of the surprise packages of this year's event, Tommy Paul and tournament favourite Novak Djokovic at 05h30.

Paul defeated Ben Shelton in an all-American quarter-final on Wednesday, 7-6 (6), 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, to move through to the first Grand Slam semi-final of his career.

On the other hand, Djokovic defeated Andrey Rublev 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 in two hours in a quarter-final clash and he has set his sights on winning a record-extending 10th Australian Open title this year.

Paul and Djokovic will meet for the first time in a professional tournament.

I was like 'semi-finals sounds a little better' so I'm pumped to be there and obviously really excited for whoever I play on Friday," Paul said after defeating Shelton.

"Making it to the second weekend of a Slam is everyone's dream when they start playing tennis so I can't believe I'm here right now."

The final for the 2023 Australian Open men's singles final will take place on January 29.
