Andrew Landry will be looking to emulate Johnny Miller when he competes at the 2021 The American Express

The American golfer won last year's tournament and it was his second PGA Tour victory.

In the final round, Landry made three straight bogeys beginning at the par-3 13th and on the 17th tee, the 33-year-old, who had once led by six, was tied for the lead.

Landry then birdied holes 17 and 18 to win the tournament by two strokes over Mexican golfer Abraham Ancer.

The Texas-born golfer will now be looking to become the first golfer to defend The American Express since Miller, who achieved this in 1976.

Landry tends to perform well in this tournament as he came close to winning the trophy in 2018 and the competition was known as the CareerBuilder Challenge.

The man nicknamed the Roadrunner lost in a sudden-death playoff to Jon Rahm on the fourth extra hole and he had to birdie the final regulation hole to force a playoff.

During the playoff, Landry had a makeable putt for birdie on the second extra hole to win the CareerBuilder Challenge.

However, Landry missed it to the right and after three pars, Rahm won the playoff with a birdie on the fourth extra hole.

In January 2021, Landry, who won the 2018 Valero Texas Open for his first PGA Tour victory, signed a new clothing endorsement, Vineyard Vines, that links him to CBS golf announcer Jim Nantz.

“We had a really good conversation,” Landry said when speaking about Nantz.

“I am pleased to be a part of their team. It would be so cool if I could win a tournament where Jim is doing the announcing.”
