2020-21 DStv Premiership

Matchday 8 of 30
18-20 December 2020

The final round of DStv Premiership fixtures for 2020 will take place this coming weekend.

It has been a difficult year for football, not only in South Africa, but across the globe due to the Covid-19 pandemic and while supporters are still not allowed back at stadiums as yet, the 2020-21 campaign has not disappointed with many exciting narratives already taking shape.

Swallows FC's terrific start to the 2020-21 season following their promotion from the GladAfrica Championship was rewarded with head coach Brandon Truter scooping the October / November Coach of the Month award last week.

Truter is adamant that he won't fall victim to the curse that has previously befallen winners of the accolade.

"I got reminded of the curse of the coach of the month shortly after I received the award. My phone has not stopped ringing as people are telling me to be careful about experiencing a free-fall after winning this award," said Truter. "But I keep on telling them that I have a plan and would not suffer a similar fate.

"We spoke at length with the boys and agreed that all eyes would be on us from now on. We are mentally strong, and I want to break the curse and go on to win another one and become a hard-to-beat coach. .

"The next game is the most important, and we have to keep our feet on the ground and avoid getting carried away," he concluded.

The Dube Birds take on Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium in one of two matches scheduled for Sunday with AmaZulu, who appointed Benni McCarthy as head coach this week, at home to Chippa United in the other match on the day.

Maritzburg United will kick-off matchday eight at home to Stellenbosch on Friday before five games on Saturday with Kaizer Chiefs' clash at home to Bloemfontein Celtic the pick of the bunch.
