Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the PSG chairman and CEO, explained what it means for his side to reach the final after they defeated German club, RB Leipzig, in the semi-final clash on August 18.

"I am very happy and very proud of this magnificent and historic night for the club. It's the first time we have qualified for the Champions League," Al Khelaifi said.

"It's magnificent for our supporters as well, who aren't with us tonight, but it is also for them that the players gave it everything tonight.

"From the first to last minute against Atalanta and again tonight with an incredible match. We are thinking of our supporters tonight."

However, PSG have tasted success in continental competitions in the past having won the 1996 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

The Parisians clinched the title after defeating Austrian club Rapid Wien 1-0, thanks to a free-kick from Bruno N'Gotty at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, Belgium in May 1996.

They also lifted the UEFA Intertoto Cup after defeating Italian club Brescia on the away goals rule in the finals in August 2001.

The last competitive meeting between PSG and Bayern was on 05 December 2017.

Bayern secured a 3-1 victory over PSG in a Champions League group stage match at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.
