Francesco Bagnaia will be looking to emulate Marc Marquez who remains the last motorcycle racer to successfully defend the Aragon Grand Prix title.

The Ducati rider was in his element at last year's Aragon MotoGP as he won the race for the first time in his career having started in position one on the grid.

Bagnaia is the most in-form motorcycle racer in the MotoGP at the moment having won four successive races including the recent San Marino MotoGP on September 4.

Starting from fifth on the grid, Bagnaia made an excellent start that allowed him to be at the front before moving into the lead after two laps and he went on to win the race.

Enea Bastianini of Ducati and Aprilia's Maverick Vinales finished second and third respectively in a race that took place at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

Bagnaia's scintillating form has elevated him to the second spot on the 2022 riders' standings as he looks to go all the way and clinch his first-ever MotoGP world title.

The Italian star will move closer to current riders' standings leader Fabio Quartararo of Yamaha if he wins the Aragon MotoGP.

"Today was a really tough race. In the first few laps, I didn't have any grip at the front or the rear, and I was afraid to push," Bagnaia said after the San Marino MotoGP.

"I could feel Maverick very close, and I could only brake hard to try to put him in trouble and avoid him overtaking me. When the weight in the tank dropped, the grip improved, and I could pick up the pace and push to the end.

"We are now 30 points behind Quartararo, but the fight for the Championship remains tough, and we can't afford any mistakes. We have to stay focused and think race by race."

Ducati are placed at the top of the Constructors' championship standings and they are followed by Yamaha and Aprilia respectively.
