Real Madrid will look to shrug off their poor pre-season results when they begin the new La Liga campaign with a match away to Celta de Vigo at Abanca Balaidos on Saturday 17 August 2019, kick-off at 17:00.
Real endured a difficult season in 2018/19, failing on both the domestic and European scenes. This saw the return of manager Zinedine Zidane, who will be hoping to reprise the team spirit which brought the club a run of three successive UEFA Champions League titles and the 2016/17 La Liga championship in his first tenure with the club.
Los Blancos have recruited heavily in the off-season, with their most notable signing being former Chelsea winger Eden Hazard. They have also brought in the likes of Rodrygo, Eder Militao and Luka Jovic, though the unwanted Gareth Bale remains as part of the squad.
Real suffered some worrying defeats in pre-season – especially a stunning 7-3 reverse at the hands of Atletico Madrid – and supporters will hope that those results were simply a result of rustiness and adaptation from new players.
Celta came home in 17
