2024/25 La Liga
Matchday 33
Atletico Madrid v Rayo Vallecano

Riyadh Air Metropolitano
Madrid, Spain
Thursday, 24 April 2025
Kick-off is at 21:30

Atletico Madrid will be hoping to bounce back in La Liga when they host Rayo Vallecano at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Thursday evening, 24 April.

Atletico are third in the league rankings, and are wounded after shockingly recently losing to relegation-threatened Las Palmas last weekend.

The result knocked the Madrid team further off the pace in the race for the La Liga title, prompting manager Diego Simeone to make an admission about the title charge.

"If we had any chance of winning the league, we needed to get perfect results. Unfortunately, we didn’t do that today [against Las Palmas]" Simeone said.

Simeone admitted worries about his team's recent displays, especially their lack of intensity.

"I’ve been at this club for 14 years, and we’ll continue to protect and fight for what we’ve built. We will keep searching for players who fit our style," he stated.

Eliminated from the Champions League by Real Madrid and the Copa del Rey by Barcelona, Simeone's Atletico Madrid will finish the season trophyless domestically and in Europe, despite an upcoming Club World Cup appearance.

Meanwhile, Barcelona under Hansi Flick are chasing a treble, while Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid could still secure a double.

On the other hand, Vallecano are 10th in the log and head coach Inigo Perez has settled his future, extending his deal until the end of next season after much speculation about his next move.

The team has had a strong season and are still in contention for a European finish, with Perez attracting attention from other teams in the process.

“It’s not about perceptions, it’s about reality,” Perez explained.

“This news makes me angry because it is a lack of respect for me [the rumours], for Rayo, for Osasuna and for Vicente Moreno. I understand that you have to create speculation – I accept it, but it is not pleasant news.”
